Plot summary
An astronaut has an accident in space and his pregnant wife begins to suspect he has been taken over by an alien intelligence.

Film review
Johnny Depp is probably my favorite contemporary actor. He is usually quite conscientious about choosing interesting roles rather than parts that would solidify an image or grant him the privilege of becoming an action hero. But even Johnny can let you down. And his forays into the mainstream so far at least illustrate his lack of interest in Hollywood filmmaking, as he tends to look bored from start to finish. This was the case in the lacklustre thriller Nick of Time, and it's also the case here.

But he's really just playing second fiddle here to the starring role of Distraught Young Bride Charlize Theron. It's Rosemary's Baby all over again, except this time without the surreal paranoia and Satan is now of course an alien. There's an embarassing appearance by the usually reliable Joe Morton as the crazy guy who tries to warn her. If you can make it all the way to the ending without passing out from boredom, you'll find a neat little scene that rather cunningly wraps things up in a surprising way the film doesn't really deserve.
Version control
Region 1 and Region 2 releases are identical.

Picture and sound
The film is framed at an anamorphic aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and looks great. The Dolby 5.1 soundtrack is nicely used, with plenty of use of the rear speakers.

Added value
The main extra feature is the addition of the original ending, which is more oblique and pointless than the one used in the film. The menus are nicely done, animated showing clips from the movie and expectant cues from the score.
