Quote
Jake Gittes:Alright, enough is enough... You can't eat the Venetian blinds, Curly. I just had 'em installed on Wednesday.

Plot summary
Jack Nicholson stars as Jake Gittes, a private eye on the trail of political conspiracy and personal tragedy in 1930s Los Angeles.

Film review
Director Polanski fuses authentic 1940s film noir atmosphere and aesthetics with a 1970s sensibility, creating one of the greatest detective films of all time and providing Nicholson with a career-best performance.
Version control
Identical releases are available for Region 1 and Region 2.

Picture and sound
The DVD image is anamorphic and framed at 2.35:1. The colors seem a little faded here and there, but overall the image is clear and mostly free of compression artifacts. The soundtrack is presented in the original monaural version, in a dolby 2.0 mix, and in an all-new Dolby 5.1 remix, that adds the sumptuous score and some sound effects to the rear channels.

Added value
Extras are limited to the original trailer and a half-hour documentary featuring interviews with the director, the screenwriter and the producer of Chinatown. It's highly informative and very entertaining. There is some subtle wavy animation in the interactive menus, along with some cues from the soundtrack. They are nicely designed with a good feel for the look of the film.
